What’s happening in Collie?
For decades, Collie has been the beating heart of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). Neoen's Collie Battery project reaffirms this historic role, supporting the region's evolution into a world-leading energy storage hub. Delivered over two stages, it works by storing excess energy generated during the day and discharging it when the community needs it most. The project is one of the largest batteries by storage capacity in the entire country. Utilising cutting-edge Tesla Megapack technology, the battery can charge and discharge approximately 20% of the average demand on the SWIS. The project is connected to the Western Power network at the Palmer Terminal substation via a dedicated 330 Kilovolt switchyard.

Location
Just 13km northeast of Collie, the project sits at the heart of WA's main electricity system. This location was chosen to take advantage of existing transmission infrastructure and clear, open space - allowing the delivery of a world-class storage hub in Collie that respects the local landscape while strengthening our State’s main electricity grid.

Community benefits
This project has had a positive impact on the local community: it delivered hundreds of jobs during its construction and continues to support a handful of full-time roles now it is operational. Furthermore, Neoen has implemented a Community Benefit-Sharing Scheme for the lifetime of the project and launched an educational Learning Hub to provide local schools with resources on renewable energy.

Project Status
The project is fully operational. Stage 1 commenced operations in October 2024, with Stage 2 coming online a year later.

Powering Western Australia for decades
The Collie Battery will have an operational life of around 20 years.
