State Government Projects

Western Australia is undergoing a generational shift in how energy is generated, moved and used. We are modernising our energy systems because we know that we need cleaner, smarter power to cut emissions and build a stronger economy for our State.

To realise this vision, the State Government is delivering several key projects and initiatives right across WA.

Powering growth in the Goldfields

Investigating a new common use network

The Goldfields’ natural resources underpin many of the technologies at the heart of the global clean energy transition. This means that the region is rapidly becoming a hub for the materials driving the worldwide push to electrify, decarbonise and shift to renewable energy. But to truly play this global role, the Goldfields will need new electricity infrastructure. That’s why the State Government is investigating the Goldfields Regional Network – a new transmission network that would connect world-class renewable resources to industrial centres and local communities.

Decarbonising the Pilbara

Unlocking renewables to power the Pilbara's future

We can't decarbonise WA without decarbonising the Pilbara. That’s why the State Government has developed the Pilbara Energy Transition (PET) Plan, a bespoke plan to accelerate decarbonisation across the region. The PET Plan is facilitating new common use transmission infrastructure to unlock high-quality renewable energy resources, connect them to industrial demand and cut emissions for some of our most important industries.

Connecting new possibilities

A future-ready transmission network

The State Government is delivering its vision to make WA a renewable energy powerhouse. As part of this, our main transmission network, the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), is changing. The SWIS Transmission Plan outlines the new Clean Energy Link transmission projects required to realise our vision for WA over the next decade and beyond.

Smarter power for WA households

Batteries working for our homes

The State Government’s WA Residential Battery Scheme supports eligible WA households to install batteries through interest-free loans and rebates. Residential batteries can store energy generated by rooftop solar so that it can be used later in the day and help households be smarter with their energy – saving them money while making our energy systems more secure.

Community Benefits Guideline

Realising the opportunities of the energy transition

The State Government has released the Community Benefits Guideline for Large-scale Renewable Energy Projects in the South West Interconnected System to support communities hosting new renewable infrastructure to realise meaningful and lasting benefits from WA’s energy transition.
