Strong and Reliable Energy

Our electricity systems must be strong and our energy must be secure. That’s simply non-negotiable - we need reliable energy to power our homes, our economy and our State’s iconic way of life.
So as Western Australia’s energy systems evolve, the State Government is making sure our transition is phased, planned and pragmatic. Because we know that’s how we keep energy reliable while still lowering emissions and powering growth.

Strong and secure systems
To make sure our low emissions energy systems are secure and reliable, we are supporting renewables with energy storage, flexible gas-generation and improved power-system services that help make our systems more adaptable. That’s why we’re building more grid-scale batteries, using Virtual Power Plants to harness the full potential of household batteries and solar and keeping a Reserve Capacity Mechanism for peak demand on our main grid.

More diverse energy
By spreading out renewable generation projects across different locations, we can make sure our energy is as reliable as possible. And by using a mix of technologies, like solar, wind, batteries and gas, we can make sure our energy systems are strong and secure. So, to connect wind and solar farms spread out across our State’s regions, we are expanding and upgrading transmission infrastructure right across WA.

Investing for the future
WA is a great place to do business and companies from across the globe are looking to develop renewable projects here. Our State’s clean energy investment pipeline is worth over $200 billion, and includes new wind, solar and battery projects. By connecting new wind and solar farms, we can make sure we generate renewable energy at scale - meeting rising demand for electricity while still cutting emissions.

A planned and pragmatic transition
The State Government is making sure our transition is phased, planned and pragmatic.
Using world-class modelling and planning exercises like the Whole of System Plan and SWIS Transmission Plan, we can map out how we keep our energy systems strong as we decarbonise. And by partnering with experts at the Australian Energy Market Operator and actively engaging with industry about their energy needs, we can use advanced modelling to predict demand and map the new infrastructure we need to ensure energy security and reliability – not just today, but well into the future.
