How is PoweringWA leading WA’s energy transition?
We are working to bridge the gap between State-wide strategy and local priorities. By partnering with landowners, Traditional Owners and Local Governments, we are making sure that the infrastructure of tomorrow meets the needs and priorities of the people of WA.

Unlocking new transmission infrastructure
01
We're supporting the delivery of upgraded and expanded transmission infrastructure across our State, so new energy generation and battery storage projects can connect and deliver energy to where it’s needed the most.

Enabling large-scale renewable projects
02
We are improving planning and approvals processes and mapping out future-proofed transmission infrastructure, making it easier for wind farms, solar farms and energy storage facilities to be developed, constructed and connected.

Supporting secure, future-proofed energy solutions
03
By integrating battery storage and flexible gas generation with renewables like wind and solar, we are ensuring our energy is reliable and dependable - while still cutting our emissions.

Enhancing coordination and planning
04
PoweringWA brings together government, industry, developers and communities to find alignment on land use, cultural heritage, environmental approvals, transmission planning and community benefits. By working together, we can deliver a transition that works for every Western Australian.

Engaging with communities
05
PoweringWA is working with communities and Local Governments to help them navigate and benefit from the energy transition. Through State-wide and local campaigns, we build understanding and support for a cleaner energy future across WA.
Who we work with
PoweringWA is working with a range of stakeholders to deliver the energy transition.
Communities
The energy transition will create new opportunities for regional communities, including employment, growing local businesses and community benefits like infrastructure investment. But at the same time, it can also bring change to local landscapes. That's why PoweringWA is working with communities to ensure their voices, perspectives and priorities are heard and considered - providing them with the tools and information they need to navigate the opportunities before them.

Strong and reliable energy
Our low emissions energy systems must be strong and secure - that’s simply non-negotiable. Because we need reliable energy to power our homes, our economy and our State’s great way of life. As WA’s energy systems change, the State Government is making sure our transition is phased, planned and pragmatic - so we can keep energy reliable and our electricity systems strong while still lowering emissions.

Affordable low emissions energy
We have world-class energy resources spread right across our State - strong winds, bright sunlight and an abundance of natural gas. This means that renewable energy, supported by flexible gas generation and energy storage, is the most effective way to power WA’s future. By fully unlocking these resources, we can keep electricity affordable - saving money for households and families while also helping us build new industries and a more resilient economy.

More sustainable energy
To protect our State’s natural environments from extreme weather events and climate fluctuations, we must cut our carbon emissions. That’s why the State Government has committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 - so we can reduce pollution and safeguard our plants, animals and quality of life for generations to come. To achieve this, we need to decarbonise our energy systems. This means expanding our capacity to generate sustainable electricity from renewable sources like solar and wind while phasing out fossil fuels like coal and diesel.
