What’s Happening at Gudai-Darri?

The Gudai-Darri Solar Farm is a pioneering project in the Pilbara, serving as Rio Tinto’s first ever large-scale solar facility in the region. Made up of 83,000 solar panels and 12 inverters, during peak generation periods the project can supply 100% of the Gudai-Darri Iron Ore Mine’s electricity needs. By integrating with the Tom Price energy storage system, the Gudai-Darri Solar Farm has helped reduce Rio’s annual CO₂ emissions by about 90,000 tonnes – perfectly illustrating how renewables, integrated with storage and other technologies, can support lower emissions in some of our State’s most important industries.
