What’s happening at King Rocks?

The King Rocks Wind Farm is a renewable energy project currently under construction in the eastern Wheatbelt region. This project is being delivered by State-owned energy retailer Synergy, supported by a $513 million investment. The facility will consist of a 105 megawatt wind farm featuring 17 turbines, each standing approximately 206 metres tall. This project is a critical component of the State Government’s strategy to phase out State-owned coal power plants on the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) and transition toward cleaner, smarter power. Once complete, it will connect to Western Power’s transmission network, providing enough renewable energy to power up to Western Australian 70,000 households.

location

Location

Located in the Shire of Kondinin, the King Rocks Wind Farm site was specifically chosen for its reliable wind profile and minimal clearing requirements. The 17-turbine project has been intentionally designed to sit as lightly on the landscape as possible.

Community benefits

In addition to the 200 construction jobs, the project is supporting local businesses through contracts for site-works and other materials. Synergy is also collaborating with the local community to establish a community investment program. This program will fund local projects and infrastructure, ensuring the Shire of Kondinin shares in the long-term benefits of the State’s renewable energy transition.
